EDITING YOUR PROFILE

Maintaining a profile with some basic info about you and your interests is, of course, one of the most important aspects of a social network, and MyBuffalo is no exception. Ready to share a little info about yourself? It’s a quick and easy process.

Check out that green box on the right-hand side of the page with your username and the “My” links. Mouse over the MY PROFILE link. Three links will appear in a drop-down menu. Now, simply click on the EDIT MY PROFILE link.

ADDING A PROFILE PHOTO

Click on the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page. Next, click the UPLOAD PHOTOS link. This will take you to the photo upload page, and you’ll be able to select a photo from your own computer to upload. If you look directly beneath the photo uploader, you’ll see you have two options for this image – mark it as a “regular” photo, or make it your profile photo.

ADD A PROFILE THEME IMAGE

Want to add some color to your profile page? Maybe a fancy design? This can be accomplished with a few swift clicks.

Follow the same path as above - click on the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page, and then click the UPLOAD PHOTOS link. Now, when you’re taken to the photo uploader, look directly beneath the photo uploader once again – but this time, skip down to the third option, A PROFILE THEME IMAGE, and click the link.

You will now be redirected to the CUSTOMIZE PROFILE THEME page, and you can easily select one of our profile templates by clicking the ADD TO MY PROFILE links on the right-hand side of the page.

If you ever come back to make a change, you’ll even be able to see which theme is currently active on your profile.

Feeling creative? Click the CREATE YOUR OWN PROFILE THEME link and build a new look for yourself.

There are a couple easy ways to do this – the first way is to simply mouse over the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page. Next, click on the appropriate link for what you want to do – the uploading process should be pretty self-explanatory from there.

The other way into the content-uploading pages is to check out the navigation bar on top of the page. Let’s say that you mouse over the MYBUFFALO tab in the top navigation on any MyBuffalo page. You’ll see a drop-down menu appear that includes categories like “Photos,” “Videos,” “Podcasts,” and more.

Now, the main purpose of these links is to take you to pages where you can see the latest MyBuffalo content – but you can also contribute through these particular pages, as well. Go ahead and click the “Photos” link as an example. You’ll hop over to the “Most Recent Photos” page. Now look at the sub-navigation – that’s the thin little bar beneath the top navigation – and you’ll see an “Add a photo” link on the right-hand side.

This helpful little tool can also be found on the most recent video page, the most recent blog, and so on. So if you’re ever checking out the most recent media at MyBuffalo and feel inspired to start posting, you’re just a link away from getting started.

WHAT ARE FANS?

Fans are the first step towards friendship. You see a particular user on the site and you say to yourself, “I would love to be friends with that person. It would bring me pleasure to see their latest activity in the My Friends & My News tab on my profile page. Perhaps we will begin messaging each other through the site, and a wonderful friendship will blossom.”

So what do you do? Simple – you click the “Add to Friends” link in that user’s profile. You are now a FAN of the user, and you will be updated whenever the user adds content to MyBuffalo.

WHAT ARE FRIENDS?

When you check your profile, you’ll see that you have pending FRIEND requests. Simply click ACCEPT to make your FAN into FRIEND.

Not quite sure you want to pal up with this new FAN?  Just hit DECLINE, and that FAN will be no FRIEND of yours.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?

Well, for the time being, you can't change your username.  You can always make a new account with the username of your choice, but that's up to you.

You can, however, change your password - all you need to do is mouse over the MY PROFILE link in the green box on the right-hand side of the screen, and then click on the MY ACCOUNT link that pops up beneath.  Once you're in the MY ACCOUNT section, you will be able to edit your password, change your profile, or even update your email address.
