Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center is located at the Dr. Victor Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve - a unique 292-acre complex of forests, ponds, and wetlands surrounded by suburban development. Reinstein Woods offers a variety of opportunities to explore and learn about nature for families and people of all ages. In addition to free guided tours of the woods, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) offers a variety of special programs each month, including snowshoe and ski adventures, walks on seasonal topics, and a fall nature festival. The DEC invites you to visit this fascinating area!

Hours

Self-guided Interpretive Trails

The interpretive trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Visitors are requested to sign in and out at the main trailhead kiosk and obey the posted rules. Interpretive pamphlets corresponding to the Lily Pond Loop, Footprint Trail, and Beech Tree Trail are available at each trailhead kiosk or inside the Environmental Education Center. Interpretive signs are found along the State Symbols Trail and History Trail. Benches are available on each trail.

Monday through Friday 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Saturday 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Closed Sundays and state holidays.

Directions

From Interstate 90 (I-90)

  • Take exit 52A (William St.). Head towards Cheektowaga on William St. to Union Road.
  • Turn left onto Union Rd. (Rt. 277) and proceed to Como Park Boulevard.
  • Turn right onto Como Park Boulevard. Travel approximately 1.8 miles.
  • Turn right onto Honorine Drive.
  • The entrance gate to the Preserve is on the left at 93 Honorine Drive.

From Transit Road (Rt. 78)

  • Turn west onto Como Park Boulevard (located between Broadway and Losson Road.) Travel approximately 1.1 miles.
  • Turn left onto Honorine Drive.
  • The entrance gate to the Preserve is on the left at 93 Honorine Drive.

  The other day, I was welcomed by an unexpected creature when I walked out of the Education Center at Reinstein Woods. This small animal crawled out of a snow bank and waddled up the trail ahead.
