HOW DO I CHANGE MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
Maintaining a profile with some basic info about you and your interests is, of course, one of the most important aspects of a social network, and MyBuffalo is no exception. Ready to share a little info about yourself? It’s a quick and easy process.
Check out that green box on the right-hand side of the page with your username and the “My” links. Mouse over the MY PROFILE link. Three links will appear in a drop-down menu. Now, simply click on the EDIT MY PROFILE link.
Click on the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page. Next, click the UPLOAD PHOTOS link. This will take you to the photo upload page, and you’ll be able to select a photo from your own computer to upload. If you look directly beneath the photo uploader, you’ll see you have two options for this image – mark it as a “regular” photo, or make it your profile photo.
Want to add some color to your profile page? Maybe a fancy design? This can be accomplished with a few swift clicks.
Follow the same path as above - click on the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page, and then click the UPLOAD PHOTOS link. Now, when you’re taken to the photo uploader, look directly beneath the photo uploader once again – but this time, skip down to the third option, A PROFILE THEME IMAGE, and click the link.
You will now be redirected to the CUSTOMIZE PROFILE THEME page, and you can easily select one of our profile templates by clicking the ADD TO MY PROFILE links on the right-hand side of the page.
If you ever come back to make a change, you’ll even be able to see which theme is currently active on your profile.
Feeling creative? Click the CREATE YOUR OWN PROFILE THEME link and build a new look for yourself.

There are a couple easy ways to do this – the first way is to simply mouse over the CONTRIBUTE link in the green box in the upper right-hand corner of any page. Next, click on the appropriate link for what you want to do – the uploading process should be pretty self-explanatory from there.
The other way into the content-uploading pages is to check out the navigation bar on top of the page. Let’s say that you mouse over the MYBUFFALO tab in the top navigation on any MyBuffalo page. You’ll see a drop-down menu appear that includes categories like “Photos,” “Videos,” “Podcasts,” and more.
Now, the main purpose of these links is to take you to pages where you can see the latest MyBuffalo content – but you can also contribute through these particular pages, as well. Go ahead and click the “Photos” link as an example. You’ll hop over to the “Most Recent Photos” page. Now look at the sub-navigation – that’s the thin little bar beneath the top navigation – and you’ll see an “Add a photo” link on the right-hand side.
This helpful little tool can also be found on the most recent video page, the most recent blog, and so on. So if you’re ever checking out the most recent media at MyBuffalo and feel inspired to start posting, you’re just a link away from getting started.
Fans are the first step towards friendship. You see a particular user on the site and you say to yourself, “I would love to be friends with that person. It would bring me pleasure to see their latest activity in the My Friends & My News tab on my profile page. Perhaps we will begin messaging each other through the site, and a wonderful friendship will blossom.”
So what do you do? Simple – you click the “Add to Friends” link in that user’s profile. You are now a FAN of the user, and you will be updated whenever the user adds content to MyBuffalo.
When you check your profile, you’ll see that you have pending FRIEND requests. Simply click ACCEPT to make your FAN into FRIEND.
Not quite sure you want to pal up with this new FAN? Just hit DECLINE, and that FAN will be no FRIEND of yours.
HOW DO I CHANGE MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
Well, for the time being, you can't change your username. You can always make a new account with the username of your choice, but that's up to you.
You can, however, change your password - all you need to do is mouse over the MY PROFILE link in the green box on the right-hand side of the screen, and then click on the MY ACCOUNT link that pops up beneath. Once you're in the MY ACCOUNT section, you will be able to edit your password, change your profile, or even update your email address.
It all started with a very, very long workday. I started early, came home late, and texted grumpily: never a winning combination. "You deserve a cupcake," a friend responded to my woes. "Is that some crazy new standard of reward" I wondered? This was almost a week ago. I craved cupcakes from that moment forward.
Cupcakes have been enjoying a resurgence in recent years, seeing upscale cupcake shops open in many major cities including New York's Magnolia Bakery, credited with starting the "cupcake craze," Georgetown Cupcake in Washington DC, a kitschy retro shop which packages its cupcakes in bright pink boxes, tied with a ribbon, and now Buffalo's Zillycakes, home of the cupcake bar.
I have never been to Magnolia, but once spent literally months planning to feast on the wares of Georgetown Cupcake(shown below). I was living in Washington at the time, and frequently read about their uniquely flavored and hugely popular confections in the local cooking magazines my Aunt loved to leave lying around when I was particularly hungry. Since I was usually busy trying to go to class, hold down an internship at USA Weekend, and navigate the metro system without being heinously late for neither, it took me quite some time to get my cupcake. The second I stepped foot into the brightly-colored bakery, I wished I had done so sooner. Sure, the cupcake was a little pricey. I felt slightly silly riding the train home with my little pink box carefully balanced on my lap. Was it worth it? Every penny, every second, every stare. Red velvet cake with buttercream frosting will do that to a person.
Fast forward to last night, which found me actually inside Zillycakes for the first time. I had walked past their window, stopped, walked back, and oggled the crazy confections many a time, but never actually stepped foot inside the door. For me, going into a bakery is a lot like letting an alcoholic into a bar. There's no such thing as just "looking" at the addictive substances contained therein. Last night, beset by a pretty stressful week, I gave in to my cupcake craving.
Zillycakes is best known for their off-the-wall cake creations, including the Obama cupcake portrait owner Zilly Rosen crafted for the election (see below left), but their cupcakes are well worth the trip. Customers have the choice of a large or small cupcake in several flavors, including classics like vanilla, chocolate and red velvet, but this month also featuring a lavender cake, carrot cake, and several other fancy flavors.
"I'd recommend getting one of the specials," the barista advised(do you call a cupcake peddler a barista? It seemed appropriate)."They're only here for a limited time." Once we decided on a base, we had our choice of several frosting options, and a wealth of decorations and add-ons, including some truly adorable ganache flowers. Not being one to get all frilly with a cupcake I'm just going to devour in a minute anyway, I went with what the barista called "vanilla crumbles" on my lavender cake with rose buttercream frosting. Hey. it was pink and white and sugary all over. In a word: perfection.
The great thing about a cupcake is it doesn't come with the same guilt factor as a heaping pile of decadence like your average diner dessert. Full disclosure: I have been known to go a bit savage over the peanut butter pie at Pano's at times, and can easily polish off an entire Spot coffee cheesecake. Not that I've tried, mind you, but I know my cake capacity. With one innocent little cupcake, sweet afficionados can have their cake, eat it too, and not feel like a naughty girl an hour later. Bottom line: if you're looking for something fun and frivolous to do with your Friday evening, pop on down to Zillycakes and feed your inner child. A cupcake is a taste of that five year old's birthday party, except the cake is always your favorite flavor, and nobody's trying to steal your toys. I'll take that over a gold medal any day.

Tuesday, Danny's South became a jail, as a Lock-Up for MDA took place.
Because I have been far too busy with new business and orchestrating the EXPOSURE Concert, I did not get out the way I intended, and failed to make my bail. I felt horribly guilty.
I felt so bad I thought about not attending the event. Instead of being able to send 2 kids to camp, I raised enough money to pay for a flu shot. Which is still something, but what a huge shortcoming.
Having an idea in mind, I went to the event, met the staff and explained my dilemma. I did not want to do what everyone else was doing (there's a shocker huh?).
As I told them how the cause of the concert is to expose domestic violence, I officially pledged $2,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Associaion from the concert proceeds. I put it in writing on an EXPOSURE Concert promo flyer and signed it.
Yesterday, I sponsored myself for $50 with On A Dime Installations, and my online donations were $30, for a total of $80. Boy I can't wait to present a guitar check for $2,000 in August!
I can't let Jerry's kids down, or any kids, but especially ones that suffer with physical health issues.
Another reason for YOU to attend one or both days of rock to expose domestic violence at Club Paradise August 14-15, 2010.
Hamburg Fairgrounds and Gaming raised a good bundle o' money for the cause as did many, many other businesses. The event was fun and I met some new people in our business community which is always interesting. WNY always comes through no matter what our economy looks like or people say about us!
Growing up listening to fighting parents, seeing his mother with bruises and bleeding, ripped clothing, not being able to talk to her one on one, and he himself being controlled, belittled and isolated by his father, you might think my son would have grown into a monster, the kind of person that goes postal.
You know me as the once-abused, now reaching out to help the abused and condemned.
Its been just over 2 years now that my 3 kids and I have re-learned life on our own. We have been able to learn who each other are and form our own special relationships that we lacked as they grew up.
I was personally afraid my son would carry on his father's anger and aggressiveness. My son started working out at about 15 years old; working out his anger, in hopes to one day retaliate against the beast that refused to let anyone have a good day. It seemed my husband got satisfaction from sucking the happiness and dignity right out of us.
Today, at 20 years old, my son can kick his father's - and many other's - backside if he wanted to. The best part is he doesn't show it off. He likes to be an anonymous secret, so if he needs to draw on it, he can. He's a lover, not a fighter.
He is one of the most self-disciplined people that I know and really respect him for that. On his own, he traded his cars and added money saved from working, and owns a Corvette. Yes it's a C4 but it is an American Icon. He has a motorcycle too, and bought his little 6 year old brother a quad. He wants to give him the life he wished he had. For Christmas, he bought his girlfriend of 3 years a motorcycle.
Today, he has uploaded on youtube a video of him pushing a nail through a 2x4 bare-handedly. He can bench 275, goes to the gym every day, eats alot but eats smart and all naturally he gained 30 pounds and is getting ready to cut up. He is getting his foundation laid now, to let his passion work for him. For a career, he ponders about entering bodybuilding competitions or being a trainer. For 20, he is in a nice position; I congratulate him.
From my business startup prospective, I use this article to convey this: it doesn't matter what your age is or what your history is. You can take charge of your life. Stop blaming the world when things don't go your way and don't let life happen to you. Decide your direction, envision your impact. Make a plan and stay focused. We're not financially sound, but within ourselves, we are very, very rich. We worked for all we have, no hand-outs. That is our largest pride. Why wait for another day to pass?
And if you made one person feel bad today, apologize. If you made one person smile today, do it twice as much tomorrow.
At the age of 22, Jesse McCartney has done a lot. McCartney began his music career and rose to fame in 1999 as a member of Dream Street. He was only 14 years old when the group’s debut album was certified Gold.
Jesse now has a soaring solo career. The release of his third album, Depature has reached number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart, while it’s first single, “Leavin” has recently been certified Platinum. The album’s second single, “It’s Over” continues to linger around top 10 radio. A little over a year from it's original debut, Departure was re-released in April of 2009. Departure: Recharged features four new tracks and a remix of "How Do You Sleep?" that features Ludacris.
While co-writing most of the music on Departure, Jesse is showing off another side of his talent by establishing himself as a bold songwriter. In addition to writing his own music, he is writing for other artists including Toni Braxton and Leighton Meester. He also lent a hand to Leona Lewis’ hit song, “Bleeding Love,” which he co-wrote with Ryan Tedder of the band OneRepublic.
To get an idea as to what we would expect when he rolled into Darien Lake Performing Arts Center with New Kids On The Block on Sunday, June 14, I spoke to Jesse prior to his performance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 11. We talked about his success, how it feels to be on tour with NKOTB, his crazy fans and the Snuggie.
How has the tour been going thus far? Any interesting happenings, favorite stop?
Jesse McCartney: Honestly, we’re finally starting to get into the groove of things and it’s starting to feel like a tour. The first few days have been very chaotic but it’s going very well. All the shows and fans have been great. I’ve met with all the guys in New Kids and they’re a good group of guys. The first couple of shows we didn’t really get to talk or hang out. We were scrambling to put the show together, but everyone has been really cool and it’s already becoming a big family. It’s been great.
You’re on tour with New Kids On The Block, a group you probably never saw yourself ending up on tour with, only because they were huge while we were just kids and we're only in our early 20s. How did you get the opportunity to do this tour?
Jesse: Well, it came together last minute. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be touring this summer. We had a single that was doing really well at radio, “How Do You Sleep” was top 10 and it seemed like a really great opportunity when we found out that the New Kids were going out. Their audience is very different than crowd I’m used to performing in front of. Their audience is a little older, they have that nostalgic crowd. It was also an opportunity to get my music out there to a new group of people and for them to check it out. They asked me to be apart of it, literally three weeks before they were supposed to go out. I got my band together, we all rehearsed and it all gelled together from there.
When you watch their performance, do you ever find yourself reminiscing about your Dream Street days?
Jesse: (Laughs) It does take me back a little bit, it does. There is that sort of boyband dynamic when the guys step on stage and get up there. There is definitely a special place [in me] for boybands. I remember being 13 or 14 years old and having to rely on four other guys. It’s kind of a good, fun feeling. It definitely reminds me of when I was 14. We went on tour and opened for Britney [Spears]. It kind of reminds me of our first tour to tell you the truth.
I caught your performance when you were in Buffalo last summer. The girls were going absolutely crazy over you. Is that an often reoccurrence? Does someone ever get used to that?
Jesse: (Laughs) No, absolutely not. At least for me, I never get used to it and I’ll tell you what, this tour is a little bit different for me. The first song or two, they’re sort of warming up to me and I can see their faces like, “Oh, who is this guy?” The third song in the set is “Leavin’” and then we go right into “Beautiful Soul.” So it’s “Leavin’” and “Beautiful Soul” back to back and that’s when we really get the crowd to pay attention. My goal for this tour is to win that crowd and audience over, who probably haven’t ever seen me live before. If I can do that, I’ve walked offstage goal accomplished.
Your album, Departure is quite different than your prior two releases. What kinds of things were you looking to change or improve upon when looking back on Beautiful Soul and Right Where You Want Me?
Jesse: Well, with the third album I definitely wanted to move more into an R&B, soulful genre. With the release of “Leavin” I think the first single bridged this gap from an old sound to a new Jesse and then with the album and tracks like “It’s Over” is a little more R&B. When I was a kid the music that I always listened to was a little bit more bluesy and a bit more soulful and the kind of album I wanted to make was a reflection of what I grew up listening to and it’s definitely where I’m most comfortable vocally and artistically. I think this album is the first time where I’m excited to play each and every song.
Looking back on the sessions, what song(s) holds the most memories?
Jesse: There’s a song on the album called, “My Baby” and it’s one of the first songs I had written for the album and it became the template for the rest of the album. Sonically, it was the song that opened the door for the sound. It definitely has some sentimental value. It was a song that I wrote and the song where I knew it was a step in the right direction. It’s still one of my favorite songs on the album. After two years of putting the album together, it made it through all the other obstacles. It’s definitely a special song.
You released Departure a little over a year ago. Have you begun writing for your next album? In what direction do you envision taking your music?
Jesse: I haven’t started writing for a new album yet, but the original album for Departure came out a year ago and about two months ago we put out a re-release of it called Depature: Recharged. It has four new tracks on it that I wrote, one of which will be the new single. It’s called, “Body Language.” I’m trying my best to do as much writing as I can when I have free time, whether if it’s for me because I am writing for other artists as well. As far as a new album goes, one won’t be out this year but maybe next year.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the videos that you put out are simple and well but, however don’t have a lot of color or depth in them. Do you find that to be more capturing to your audience? Or is it more of a personal view of your music?
Jesse: To me, music videos are still very, very relevant and important. I think with all of the internet coverage you get and with things like YouTube, which is such a phenomenon and with everyone, at least for me, when I hear a song I wonder what that song looks like. If I hear a really great song, I’ll go home and check out YouTube to see what the video looks like. To me, putting a great visual to make the song go to another level is really important. One of my favorite videos to do was on the second single, “It’s Over.” Rich Lee directed it and it’s a really cool video. There are a lot of interesting special effects and it’s very appealing to the eye. I think it’s a really well produced video. Every time we’re like, “What single are we going for next?”, I always think about what it will look like in a video.
As you’ve mentioned, you write songs for other artists. In the fall of 2007, you and Ryan from OneRepublic co-wrote the song, “Bleeding Love,” for singer Leona Lewis. Apparently, that gave you a bit more writing credibility. The song became a huge hit and you had people like Simon Cowell and Jordan Sparks asking you to help write songs for them. How did that make you feel?
Jesse: It feels amazing! Like you said, as far as credibility it definitely brings you up. I think people appreciate when a singer sings a song and find out that they wrote it and it brings it to a whole other level. Because of “Bleeding Love” it’s definitely opened a door as far as a writer goes. Jive Records just reached out to me last week and they want me to write for David Archuleta’s new album. I’ve been writing with Toni Braxton and Leighton Meester (from Gossip Girl) who’s been working on a record. It’s opened a lot of people’s eyes in the industry, too. It’s definitely a great feeling to be recognized and to be asked to work with their artists.
Not only do you have your music career, but you’ve also got your acting career. You starred as Bradin in the WB series Summerland and appeared in a few episodes of the ABC Family series Greek as Andy, the athletic frat boy. How do the two roles compare?
Jesse: Well, Summerland is definitely a drama which has kind of been my forte over the years. I’ve always been drawn towards drama and specifically, darker roles. What was fun about Greek is that it’s a straight up comedy and something I’ve never really dove into until now. I’m glad that I did because it’s a fun role and the writing is great. I think that it’s an underrated show and that the acting and writing of that show is some of the best that’s on TV right now. It was really great to work with all of those actors. Scott Michael Foster, Jacob and all of those guys. It was really fun and this gave me a chance to stretch my comedic jobs.
You have also done voices for characters Theodore in Alvin and The Chipmunks, JoJo in Horton Hears a Who and Terrence in Tinker Bell. How does doing voice overs compare to acting? Which was your favorite character to play?
Jesse: It’s still acting, but with voice overs you’re not in front of the camera. In some ways it can be difficult because you’re trying to get your point across with just your voice. The good news is, is that it’s fun and that you can just role up to the studio in your pajamas and not have to worry about hair and makeup! We just finished recording Alvin II, which was a lot of fun and possibly my favorite. It will be out this Christmas and I think it’s going to be another big success for the Alvin franchise and Fox. Coming into play, there’s going to be three new chipmunks. (Laughs) Doing voice overs is a lot of fun and I’m glad that I got started in that arena early because I’m getting a lot of calls to do voice overs and they’re great gigs.
What’s next on your agenda when this tour wraps?
Jesse: I’m going to be flying to Brooklyn to film a new independent movie. It's a very well-written script. It’s with the same writer of "Basketball Diaries,” from about 15-20 years ago. It’s got a lot of really great actors and actresses. I’m really looking forward to it. As far as other projects go, I have some other films lined up. After the run of this record, my next major goal is to build up my film repertoire a little more.
If you were to create an infomercial about buying your record, what would you tell your listeners?
Jesse: Oh my goodness, an infomercial. (Laughs) I would probably be jamming out to my own album in the infomercial, but I would have to have the Snuggie! I don’t know if you’ve ever seen those Snuggie commercials, but I die every time I see them.
Oh, I know all about the Snuggie. It’s actually kind of ridiculous. (Laughs)
Jesse: (Laughs) Exactly. I would definitely have to have one of those in my infomercial. You would see me first with a blanket on and listening to the record but it’s not as comfortable but then with the Snuggie on, the album sounds so much better!
(For those of you who are unaware of what the Snuggie is, see for yourselves in the video below)

The Niagara Falls Hard Rock Café welcomed local dancers and vocalists Tuesday afternoon for the second part of the “Heather Morris Hollywood Experience” workshop. Thirty children and young adults excitedly performed on stage after receiving dance instruction from up-and-coming actress Heather Morris and vocal training from Debbie Bello of Bello Voice Studio.
Entertainment writer Tim O’Shei hosted the event and gave his insight about how to stay positive and make it in the business. Discussing tips from his book Live! Starring…You! and interviewing Morris about her experience as a rising actress, he gave the audience an idea of what it takes to succeed as a star.
Best known for her role on the popular television show Glee, Morris originally started her career as a dancer and used her years of experience to train the young entertainers with inspired performances. She also danced alongside talented recording artist Beyonce on her promotional tour to debut “Single Ladies” and taught the performers the dance to the popular song.
The young performers who took part in the “Hollywood Experience” learned their dance moves in a short amount of time just like entertainers in the business have to. Separated into two groups, the “Oh Snap!” members and “Gleeks” energetically danced and sang along to classic songs such as “Somebody to Love,” “Don’t Stop Believin,’” and a medley of Beyonce’s hit “Halo” and “Walking on Sunshine.”
O’Shei interviewed Morris about her recent stardom in between each performance and further demonstrated the importance of keeping a positive attitude while trying to make it as a star. Morris expressed her excitement about her recent success noting, “Coming here and signing autographs is an entirely new experience for me. It is very humbling for me and I cannot thank everyone enough for being so welcoming.”
Morris is the perfect example of how hard work can pay off in Hollywood. After touring with Beyonce and
performing beside her on Saturday Night Live and The Today Show, she was offered a spot on the superstar’s tour. However, Morris decided to continue to pursue her lifelong dream of acting and turned down the job.
Not long after she turned down Beyonce, Glee creator Ryan Murphy brought Morris on his set to teach the “Single Ladies” dance to some of the actors. Impressed with her talent, Murphy decided to hire Morris and made her dreams come true when he cast her as a cheerleader named “Brittany.”
Morris beamed as she expressed her excitement over her first line on the television show. “It was so nerve-racking and thrilling at the same time.” Turning to her “students” she shared, “I hope you all get to experience it someday!”
Morris and the young performers concluded the entertaining show by performing “Single Ladies” for the supportive crowd. A highlight of the event, the star’s energy and talent visibly invigorated the children as they skillfully danced and sang.

I'm always listening to new music and on the search to find new music. If you ask anybody that knows me, I'm usually their "go-to" person for music recommendations. These are some of my favorite artists at the moment that I feel have the ability to be huge in the near future.
ANCHOR & BRAILLE
Stephen Christian is one of the most inspirational singer-songwriters in today’s music scene. Christian, better known as the frontman of the alternative/pop-rock band Anberlin, has just released his solo debut, Felt, under the name of Anchor & Braille; his acoustic side project.
Anchor & Braille serves as Christian’s platform to showcase his music that he had written, but would never see the light of day as Anberlin material. In an earlier interview I had conducted with Stephen, he stated that the material he had written was a bit “different than what he was used to writing and performing with Anberlin,” and that he felt his lyrics and ideas were “more personal,” which he felt he wasn’t ready to share with a bigger audience.
Anchor & Braille’s music is greatly distinguishable from the music that is Anberlin. The structure behind Anchor & Braille is more unplugged-esque; toned-down instruments such as keyboards, pianos and acoustic guitars. However, the debut utilizes a full band.
The album is one of this year’s most anticipated releases of it’s genre. The 11 track album was written and recorded over the last four years and was produced by Copeland’s frontman, Aaron Marsh. The first single, “Still Sleeping,” is available now on iTunes. It was also featured on the compilation album, Punk The Clock, Volume Three.
Stephen Christian (Anchor & Braille) recently finished up his first solo tour; having spent most of July opening for Copeland and Sherwood.

THE DANGEROUS SUMMER![]()
The Dangerous Summer is an alternative pop-rock band from Ellicott City, Maryland. The band independently released the five song EP There Is No Such Thing as Science, in 2007. The band has a strong DIY (Do It Yourself) upbringing and heavily promoted themselves via Myspace and Purevolume. After the release of their EP, it caught the attention of indie label, Hopeless Records, in which they soon found as their new home.
They then re-released their debut EP under a new name, If You Could Only Keep Me Alive, that included new tracks. The band's debut studio album, Reach for the Sun, was released on May 5, 2009 and reached #42 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. –For a debut album and a band that has been around for less than three years, that’s pretty damn impressive.
The band’s name "The Dangerous Summer" is taken from the novel of the same name. The band has stated influences from Third Eye Blind, Bright Eyes, Jimmy Eat World, and Andrew McMahon of the bands Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate.
Their song "The Permanent Rain," from the If You Could Only Keep Me Alive EP, was recently used in a trailer for the movie "Love Happens", starring Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart.
The band is just finishing up a nationwide tour, supporting Ace Enders & A Million Different People on the BBQ Across America Tour.

THE READY SET
The Ready Set, is a one-man synth-infused alternative pop-rock band influenced by life, love and music. It’s all brought to life by Indiana’s Jordan Witzigreuter.
At 19, Witzigreuter, who is just out of high school, is a guy with flourishing talent. Jordan not only writes and records all of his own music, he plays drums, keyboards and more. –Picking up his first set of drum sticks while he was a young chap in the fifth grade.
By the time Witzigreuter was 14, he had been in numerous bands but knew at heart he belonged on his own. At 16 The Ready Set was born.
The Ready Set’s live show is impressive. While Jordan is the brain behind the music, he does have a live touring band; he has friends join him on tour to help amplify his live show. His shows are complete with smoke and vibrant lighting effects and the infectious melodies and dance beats that is The Ready Set.
Jordan cites everything from Daft Punk to Kanye Wests as influences, but states there is nobody specific that he can compare his music to. His music is unique and original, which is something rarely seen in the scene today.
The Ready Set is even being recognized by some of today’s most popular musicians. Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz regulary replies (“tweets” or “@replies” for those needing specifics) to postings Jordan has made via Twitter.
The Ready Set has also just recently wrapped up a US tour with Boys Like Girls and NeverShoutNever!, which was Witzigreuter’s first nationwide tour.
If that isn’t enough, The Ready Set has a pretty heavy touring schedule for the remainder of the year. In less than a week Jordan and his crew will set out a month-long US tour with The Color Fred and The Scene Aesthetic, the first date taking place at Buffalo’s own Xtreme Wheelz Skatepark on August 14 and ends in Nashville, Tennessee on September 5. After the completion of that tour, The Ready Set will do a short tour with Mercy Mercedes and Stereo Skyline before heading out with Brokencyde, Kill Paradise and Watchout! There’s Ghosts from the beginning of October to the end of November.
Needless to say, The Ready Set is already making quite a name for themselves. I suspect big, big things from this young musician. Mark my words.

LIGHTS
In today’s scene, its fairly difficult to make your band stand out and leave a lasting impression that’ll stay with a listener/viewer upon their first listen and speaking first handedly, I did that with Lights. I heard her music and liked it, however it wasn’t something that REALLY caught my attention. –Boy was I wrong for leaving this gem on the back burner.
While I was conquering my Warped Tour extravaganza this summer, (I attend 3-10 dates of the tour every summer), I was rekindled with my love affair of the music of Lights.
Lights Poxleitner (born Valerie Poxleitner) is a singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. She is best known for her unique sythesized pop-jams such as “Drive My Soul” and “February Air” from her 2008 Doghouse Records debut EP.
In today’s music world, Lights is a revitalizing breath of fresh air. Her synthesized compositions are written mostly in her bedroom and consist of upbeat melodies, quirky fun-filled elements and techniques that sound like they belong in space. When asked about her writing, she has stated, “When I write songs I think about how my music makes people feel, and I hope that when it goes into your ears you feel happy.” and “If my music could be drawn I would picture it like a comic, with simple border lines and bright colors. On first glance there is a nice composition, but upon closer inspection there is a deeper story.”
Lights has already toured throughout Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. She’s toured with artists such as Copeland, Lydia and Lovedrug. Lights also performed at two dates of the 2008 Vans Warped Tour as well as hit the road with Boys Like Girls and Buffalo’s Cute Is What We Aim For on the 2008 Verizon Wireless Campus Invasion Tour.
Lights got her break when her songs were chosen to be featured in Old Navy commercial campaigns nationwide. She won her first Juno for New Artist of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards. Lights won indie awards in the Favorite Solo Artist and Favorite Single categories during Canadian Music Week in March 2009 in Toronto.
Poxleitner appeared in Ten Second Epic's sophomore album, Hometown, and she was also featured on the soundtrack for the 2008 Canadian film “One Week” starring Joshua Jackson. Lights appears on fellow Canadian rockers, Silverstein’s most recent record A Shipwreck in the Sand in the song "The End". Lights supports the Toronto charity Skate4Cancer, and has recorded a song called "Year of the Cure" for their use.
Lights has just recently wrapped up her run on this year’s Vans Warped Tour and is gearing up for a smallg with Keane in September. Lights will release her debut full length album, The Listening via Doghouse Records on September 22, 2009.
Ironically enough, September 22 is also my 23rd birthday. So, for all you people out there who are taking notes...

Summer is my favorite time in Buffalo. There is so much culture here and so many great events that bring the community together. This weekend my *favorite* festival of the year will be taking place ... Waldfest.
If you have ever seen the movie Beerfest, picture this, but in the little country town of Marilla. About a half hour out of the city each year thousands of people flock to Waldfest-a giant German drinking fest that features traditional German culture down to authentic music, beer, food and dress. You can buy a table, which gives you a place to sit, eat and laugh and also provides you with a keg for the day. You can buy as many as you want, or buy by the cup. There is a stage set up with the band playing traditional German music and dozens of people dancing along. If you don't know any German drinking songs you'll know the lyrics by the end of the day!
It starts at 11am this Sunday on Two Rod Road in Marilla. If you're around this weekend make sure to come out and participate in the festivities. My family is bringing Das Boot to drink out of this year ... so be prepared!
Welcome to another installment of FIXiT!, Appliance Questions and Answers from the APWagner Appliance Repair Forum. Today’s question is about leaking refrigerators.
Water pooling inside the bottom of refrigerators, usually under the crisper or vegetable drawers, is a common problem most often caused by a blocked drain hole or a crimped/blocked drain tube. The water comes from the melting of frost from your refrigerator’s freezer, which is melted during the defrost cycle to prevent excessive frost build-up in your freezer.
The water then flows down a drain system, usually a hose located on the outside back of the refrigerator, and into a drain/overflow pan. This pan has many names: drain pan, condensing tray, overflow tray, evaporator pan, but they all serve the same function, as a holding place where water from the freezer is caught and held until it evaporates naturally.
Question: A couple of weeks ago my freezer began leaking water out the bottom of the door. I have a 10 year old Maytag Plus Refrigerator. The water drips into the bottom of freezer side and some freezes at the bottom, the rest runs out the door and onto the floor. This happens every 12 hours when it goes thru the defrost mode. Any suggestions? Is there a special part I need for my Maytag Plus Refrigerator?
Answer: A clogged/restricted defrost drain will allow the water to spill out inside and create these problems.
Your first task is to locate the drain tube using the diagrams for your refrigerator. Locate the diagrams for your refrigerator here, by entering your refrigerator’s model number. (Don’t know your refrigerator’s model number? This page tells you where to look on your refrigerator in order to get it!)
Usually the drain tube runs outside the back of the refrigerator. However, some refrigerators makers, like Whirlpool (which also makes Kenmore Brand Refrigerators,) have the drain tube inside the walls of the unit, making it difficult to access.
To fix this, clear the obstruction in the drain tube: here are some good, cheap and easy ways on how you can do this: http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_leaking.html#inside.
Also, the drain pan at the bottom of the refrigerator can overflow, or become cracked, which can lead to water leaking on the floor. Luckily if this happens, you can order a replacement drain pan for your refrigerator.

The House has just approved another $2 billion in government funding for the Cash for Clunkers program after having blown through $1 billion in just the first week of the program. Cash for Clunkers is a program to get older vehicles with poor efficiency and low gas mileage off the roads. Cash incentives for those trading in their older vehicle for qualifying new cars with much better mpg ratings will recieve either $3500 or the full $4500 depending on how many more miles per gallon you're actually gaining by purchasing or leasing a new vehicle. Dealers incentives and other offers will still be applied on top of this government program.
However, as with everything else in this world there are pros and cons to Cash for Clunkers. Let's start with the positive side of the program. I state the following to be my personal opinions and views, but please feel free to comment this blog. I am sure many people have different ideas about CFC.
I see the pros as one, getting actual "clunkers" that truely are up to 25 years old off the road. I am not speaking of old cars in general, but vehicles that are polluting much more than they should. Secondly, the program is seriously trying to turn around the new car market and get consumers to start buying again versus thousands of automobiles across the country sitting in piles of backed up inventory. But the most important aspect I see for this program is the opportunity for middle class families and individuals who are driving older used cars to finally afford a brand new vehicle. Before this extra $3500 or $4500 incentive that may have been just enough extra cost to prevent many people from purchasing or leasing a new car that they now can affordably do. Most of the qualifying vehicles I have seen on manufacturer's websites so far are limited to four-cylinder models of any car or truck as well as non 4WD versions too.
On the other end of the spectrum, which is where I lay my stronger opinions are the cons to this CFC program. When I first heard of the program I thought to myself, most people who are driving used vehicles or much older vehicles are those who can't afford and/or don't want a monthly car payment to begin with. Many have jumped all over this opportunity because they automatically hear "$3500 or $4500 for my used car," without taking into consideration you're about to purchase an unpaid for new car with monthly payments.
Secondly, I see this program as almost an extermination of the used car market. Yes, that may sound a little harsh, but think about it. The program started out to get REAL clunkers off the road that were very unefficient and poor gas mileage automobiles. But this program and those participating in it have taken it to a totally different level. Drive through any new car dealership in your area and take a look at the lines of cars, trucks, and vans marked with the CFC ink. It actually made me sick to look at some of them the other day. We're talking about quality, next to perfect condition running used vehicles that any person like myself would buy from a private owner or used car lot. Examples of what I have seen in the last week include Jeep Cherokees, Grand Cherokee Limited (completely loaded), nice Chevy trucks and Blazers, and a 1999 Infinity QX4, which is exactly what my mother drives. The truck was immaculate and in 6 months or less will be with thousands of other vehicles across the country crushed and exterminated from ever driving down a road again.
My good friend and I have been to two different junkyards in Buffalo over the last week and the owners have mentioned they don't even know what to do with the amount of CFC vehicles pouring into their yards. They're allowed to part them out, except for the engine and transmissions, which could still be in perfect working order and valuable to someone who needs it. And in 6 months or less the vehicle's engine MUST be purposely ruined and then the car or truck crushed. The videos are already out of control on sites like YouTube showing the silicon based solution being poured into the engines of thousands of vehicles across the country. Then they are started and ran until the engines seize up.
Yes, this program is making a large effort to turn the rock bottom new car market around again as well as getting more fuel efficient vehicles on the road today. But for me personally, I have not and will not ever buy a new vehicle for many reasons that I give on my own website. In my opinion it is not right to actually destroy perfectly good used vehicles like I have seen that aren't even 5-10 years old yet. Think of how the used car market will shrink. It will hurt people who run used car lots for a living, and making certain cars and trucks more scarce for those of us like myself who are looking for a winter car/truck to keep a summer vehicle off the road, second commuter car, first high school or college student's car, or something as simple as a work truck. People have to start looking at the whole picture and realize that everyone in our country can't be forced to buy and drive new automobiles.
The curtain rose on the 28th annual Curtain Up! Friday night, marking the beginning of another great season of theater in Buffalo. The evening began with a cocktail hour in the historic Shea’s Performing Arts Center’s Grand Lobby, followed by dinner on the stage before patrons dispersed to fifteen local theaters for the official beginning of the 2009 season. Afterward, Buffalo’s party scene commenced on Main Street as the theater district exploded with dancing in the streets, live music, food and crafts vendors, and plenty of revelry for theater people and theater-lovers alike.
“We’ve been coming to Curtain Up! For five years now,” said Sharon Wood, who started coming after work at a downtown hotel. “It’s our annual girl’s night out, and we wouldn’t miss it!” Wood and her six friends hung out at the Bijou Grill’s outdoor cocktail tables, taking in the four different stages within listening distance.
While the opening cocktail hour was all ball gowns and tuxedoes, the after party proudly flaunted the diverse appeal Buffalo’s theater scene has always boasted. Teenagers in jeans and hoodies intermingled with elderly women in beaded gowns, adult couples in cocktail attire and even a few revelers in costume.
“I wasn’t really sure what to expect,” confessed Chelsey Horwood, a pastry chef at Delish on Elmwood selling her wares outside Shea’s marquee entrance. “I’ve never been before, and I heard people get pretty into it. There’s definitely some really dressy people, but it’s not like anyone would feel uncomfortable in jeans and sneakers.”
With the wealth of entertainment lining the street, it would be hard to believe anyone could feel uncomfortable at this party. A fire-eater strolled up and down the sidewalk, casually swallowing flames while a man in a dapper boater hat jitterbugged with a lady in a sparkly gold shirt in front of a band called “Time Pirates.” A man with a kermit-like puppet conversed easily with the crowd while a magician did card tricks on tables for anyone who would watch.
Down the street and across the way, Marcella’s brought its famous drag show outside with several shows throughout the evening. Music wafted from at least four different directions, with nine different acts including local jazz fusion favorites, Babik, the Kindo Duo, Zydeco with Lee Ron and the Latin Jazz Project.
Shea’s rolled out the red carpet for cocktails under the marquee, a posh outdoor bar encouraging patrons to meander from their luxe lobby into the outdoor festivities. Couples danced in the streets until police warned them of oncoming trains, then bogeyed right back as soon as the danger had passed.
Despite a slight drizzle late in the evening, the festivities roared on until after 1am, when many partygoers continued the fun at the appropriately-named Encore down the street or one of the “Chip Strip” locations.
“One thing’s for sure,” said Tony Rizzo of Buffalo as he stepped aside to let a drag queen and a puppet master past, “Anyone who says Buffalo is dead is fooling themselves. If this party is any indication of how the year is going to go around here, I think we’re going to be okay.”
As the street cleaners began to sweep up the debris and the last night owls trickled home, Shea’s marquee stood sentinel like a benevolent grandfather, its lights burning calmly over a settling city. As the curtains closed on the season opener, one thing seemed certain: it’s going to be quite a year.
The fourth annual Catwalk for Charity to benefit Ryan Miller’s Steadfast Foundation took the Town Ballroom back to the nifty fifties Sunday night. "Sock hoppers," "daddy-o’s" and "hep cats" cooled their jets and jived the night away with the Steadfast “Rebels for a Cause.”
“We wanted something people could really get into,” Ryan Miller explained. “With something as popular as the fifties style, music, and culture, people can get involved, instead of feeling like they’re just spectators.” Why did they go from last year’s Roaring 20’s theme to the Nifty Fifties for the fourth installment? “The thirties and forties are sort of downers,” Miller said with a laugh. “The Great Depression, World Wars. . . we didn’t need to get into that. People like to have a good time, and the fifties are a lot of fun.”
The Catwalk for Charity is always a “hip bash” with live music, playful banter by emcee Janet Snyder of Kiss 98.5, both silent and live auctions and the highlight, a fashion show by the Buffalo Sabres and friends. The show included vintage fashions from the fifties and today’s hottest styles from Miller’s own store, the Refinery. Rick Jeanneret, long-time Sabres announcer even made a special appearance in a poodle skirt and wig, shaking his stuff at the end of the runway as a special surprise for the crowd.
Organizer Therese Forton-Barnes shed some light on the unique atmosphere of the Catwalk: “We offer things nobody else does. Our auction items, like a photo with Ryan in the net, designing your own cap at New Era, dinner with the players, and the fun themed atmosphere, that’s something you can’t get anywhere else,” she said.
The Catwalk for Charity is always a “flip joint” and the Town Ballroom’s classy décor only adds to the appeal. With Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, and Grease character look-alikes at every turn, it’s hard not to get into the spirit of things.
A Frank Sinatra crooner set the stage early in the evening, his smooth styles blending perfectly with vintage starburst light fixtures, the rhythmic shake of martini mixers, luxe velvet-draped stage, and of course, a few brave jitterbugs tickling the dance floor. As the evening heated up, the sounds of Elvis and the Grease soundtrack took over, and the hand-jive gave way to fancy footwork and faster beats.
The Catwalk for Charity never fails to impress, and this year was no exception, despite a slightly rushed planning season for Forton-Barnes and her dedicated committee. “Ryan is projected for consideration for the Olympics, and the team has two weeks off in February, when we would usually hold the Catwalk,” she said. “We got the yearly events schedule in late July, and found out then the only date was November 8th.” How did she pull it off? “I don’t sleep much,” she said with a smile.
Looking around at the packed ballroom, one would think all that hard work certainly paid off. “It’s a good cause, and a great party,” as Miller put it. The Sabres players, family, friends and fans jump, jived and jammed the night away and raised money for cancer research. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.

A Peculiar Pedestal
Should a man put a woman on a pedestal?
Should a man breathe?
A pedestal is like a statue. It's not real. If it falls it can crack and break into many pieces. People don't want to be put on pedestals. Most of the time we don't feel worthy or we are afraid we will fall. No one is worthy of being put on a pedestal. Grace is described as unmerited favor - something we don't deserve but we get anyway. A man should lift up the goodness in a woman to view God's gifts in her. He created the woman for something bigger than the pedestal that she stands on. Something bigger than you or I can see. The purpose for putting someone on a pedestal is to propel them into the glory of what God created them for.
A Peculiar Pedestal is different from the physical pedestal that holds statues. You can fall from a lofty height but you can't crack. If the woman falls, the man should catch her. If the man let’s her down and drops his responsibility as men sometimes do, Jesus will never let you down. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is where your ultimate trust should be. A woman should be a treasure to a man and yet she is an even greater treasure to Him.
The man who puts a woman on a pedestal is not a Pollyannaish fool who only sees perfection. He ponders their relationship very deeply. He sees the good as well as the bad. He sees the flaws as well as the strengths. He sees growth in the midst of pain. The man should look at you through a periscope of potential. He believes in what you can be. He sees you and loves you unconditionally and worthy of this Peculiar Pedestal.
These are the words inscribed on the Peculiar Pedestal:
The Way of Love
If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God's Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I don't love, I'm nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
When I was an infant at my mother's breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.
We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!
But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love. 1 Corinthians 13 The Message
A man should burn these words into his heart so that they are always his actions towards you. You need to forgive him for the times when he sounds like a creaking gate or he doesn’t see things clearly. Forgive him when he lacks emotional discipline and loses his focus on the words inscribed on the Peculiar Pedestal.
A man should commit to you, with God as his witness, that he will do his best to act out the words on the Pedestal as he lifts you up. A woman should do likewise.

Police say what started as a dispute over pocket change landed South Buffalo native and Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane in big trouble with the law. Kane and his cousin spent some time in the Erie County Holding Center this weekend and face a number of charges. They allegedly assaulted a 62-year old cab driver early Sunday after the driver told the two young men he didn't have 20 cents in coins to give them their change. It comes at a critical time for Kane who is a prospect for the U.S. Olympic Team. What do you think of this story? Is it a case of a young athlete who made a bad judgment or with a few punches, did this young hockey star damage his chance of going to the Olympics? Sound off on Buffalo.com.
While searching the internet today for hot gossip to share with you I came across this peek into Ryan Reynods Interview in Entertainment Weekly.
Here's his comments
On being called a sex symbol: "If you take any of that seriously, you need to be euthanized, ASAP. There are moments when you can use that to your advantage. But it's really embarrassing. I think I fear more than anything just sounding like a complete a--hole when I have to answer that question."
